Logan Lake - Highest Course in BC?

6t.jpgThe community of Logan Lake has recently approved funding for an 18-hole disc golf course.

At 1,067 metres (3,500 feet) Logan Lake is the 5th highest community in British Columbia. That makes for some warm days and very cool nights in the summer! Disc golf fits in perfectly with the town's diverse recreational opportunities, which include cross country skiing, fishing, golfing, hiking, and biking.

The land designated for the course is part of the Jasper fire-break, a fuel-break corridor created around the town of Logan Lake to prevent the spread of wildfires. Beetle-kill and other compromised trees have been removed and underbrush has been cleared. Some clean-up work remains, but my guess is that work cannot proceed until later in the year.

Located just above the lake, the disc golf course will be accessible from the east side of the lake via a trail from the municipal campground, and on the west side from Bill Maggs park and the recreation centre and parking lot. Bill Maggs park features an extensive playground, washrooms, picnic facilities, open green spaces and a large soccer field.

On the east of the lake, the Logan Lake campground has group camping sites as well as individual RV and tent sites. Rates are very reasonable and facilities include level sites, hot showers, free firewood, dock and lake access. The Meadow Creek Golf Club is located just outside the campground and features a challenging 9-hole golf course on gently rolling hills.
